It irks me when I tell someone what I want to do with my life and they respond with “oh that’s going to be hard work” or “I know Sandy does that, she works really hard” and they always say it in that, voice the indicates pity or dread, or something of that sort. Or the alternative is discouragement for your chosen profession. I am sorry stranger (or acquaintance or family) You just asked me a question about a very personal decision I made in my life and now you are going to judge me?
I am sorry, I don’t get why hard work or your opinion should deter me, or why you think I wouldn’t want to or be able to work hard, or know that it was going to be hard in the first place. Or whatever other assumption you might be making.
Why not “You want to be an archivist and study library sciences in the UK? That sounds fabulous, your organizational skills will be a great asset to you there!” Instead of “Libraries are dying, studying abroad is expensive, wouldn’t it be boring to catalog books and papers for the rest of your life?”
“You are getting your BFA in fine arts? fantastic, there are so many ways to apply a degree of that sort, you are taught so many creative problem solving methods.” Instead of “You’ll never get a job with a dregee as useless as that”
Is it just me, or does anyone else find this attitude frustrating?

in my iced latte this morning. But as soon as I finished drinking it I wanted to go back to bed.
Starting an energy exchange at the moksha yoga studio near where I live with intention to ride to and from yoga and trade shift. Will be in maximumly healthy and strong body way by end of summer. Yoga and cardio will help me feel peaceful, centered, flexible and strong, like the proper human I know I can be.
Also will help alleviate frightful stress injury in shoulder caused by working for 2 years as a receptionist and then going to art school and being completely neglectful of injury the whole time.
First bike ride of the year. My whole body is crying. I am woefully out of shape.
